Lemon
Overview
The lemon is a small evergreen tree native to Asia. The fruit is used for culinary and nonculinary purposes.
Lemons are presumed to have entered southern Italy around the first century AD, during the time of Ancient Rome and thus introduced to Europe. It was later brought to the Americas by Christopher Columbus.
Lemons have many culinary uses. A liqueur called limoncello, typical of southern Italy, is made from lemon rind.
